Hotly-tipped, 23 year old songstress Duffy, has released a polished debut album taking listeners on a nostalgic ride back in time. The ten track LP 'Rockferry', truly runs the sixties gamut with its elegant, bluesy soul reminiscent of Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye.

As a result, the Welsh chanteuse is one of a slew of new female singers who have been termed the 'new Amy Winehouse' wannabies. It is an unfair comparison however, taking into account the album has been over three years in the making.

Under the expert production tutelage of ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, Duffy has afforded her music the time to mature much to her credit. The result of this musical growth is there for all to hear.

The album is full of heart-felt ballads, expertly brought to the fore through Duffy's smoky vocal delivery. Sweeping strings and Motown basslines add to the authenticity. Whilst she may have come under some criticism for overdoing the homage to the past on the Dusty Springfiled-esque tracks 'Rockferry' and 'Warwick Avenue', it is the Northern Soul dancefloor vibe of UK Number 1 hit 'Mercy' that has shot Duffy into the mainstream. She looks very comfortable there too, thank you very much.

There's an undeniable vintage feel to this collection of songs on Duffy's debut. Though what it lacks in originality, it makes up for in polished, quality song crafting. We're sure that there's certainly a lot more to come from Duffy in the future.
